Making a Statement Road to the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport
Ballina Shire Council is moving ahead on constructing Airport Boulevard, the new entrance road to the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport.
Paul Tsikleas, Manager Commercial Services, said that the project has been in the pipeline for a number of years. “There has been a great deal of planning leading up to this project including environmental assessments and seeking grant funding.”
“The total cost of the project is $6.7 million and we are thankful to the Federal Government for providing $3 million in grant funding. Council will spend $3.7 million to meet the balance of the cost for the project.”
“Airport Boulevard will provide a catalyst develop future industrial land on the Southern Cross Industrial Estate and an additional access road to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport.” said Mr Tsikleas
Works started in February with the installation of environmental fencing. Bulk earthworks are currently underway and expected to carry through to early 2020.
“After the bulk earthworks are complete road civil construction works for Airport Boulevard and a connection to Boeing Avenue can commence. Airport Boulevard will also connect to North Creek Road and will include three new roundabouts, kerb and guttering, landscaping and underground services.
