NEW HOUSING FOR TWEED HEADS
Plans for a brand new mix of social, affordable and private housing in the heart of Tweed Heads are underway with the NSW Government proceeding with the redevelopment of a site on Boyd Street.
Minister for Social Housing and Member for Tweed Heads Geoff Provest announced today that the NSW Government is getting on with the redeveloping of the site, at least 30 per cent of properties to be allocated for social and affordable housing.
“This site is ideal for transformation into a vibrant mix of social, affordable and private housing to meet the needs of the Tweed Heads community,’’ Mr Provest said.
“This is a convenient location close to a range of services such as shops, transport and health facilities, meaning that social housing tenants can use the opportunity of secure housing to improve their lives.”
Ms Goward said the project will provide new fit for purpose homes and add to the supply of social housing in the region.
“The NSW Government has the biggest social housing building program in the country. The $22 billion Communities Plus program is delivering 23,000 social and 500 affordable homes and 40,000 private homes over the next 10 years,” she said.
“The Boyd Street development will provide more housing for the most vulnerable in the Tweed community and I would like to thank Geoff Provest for his strong advocacy in getting this project off the ground.”
The development application is expected to be lodged with Tweed Shire Council within six months.
